Why is it that both Facebook and Wikipedia grind my browser to a temporary halt when loading pages?  I have a rather slow (but “broadband”) internet connection, but a plenty speedy computer (2Ghz Core Duo Intel iMac with 2Gb  RAM), and I use the reputable Firefox browser (Universal binary).  I suspect it must have something to do with loading client-side code slowly (due to my connection), but then I don’t see why this should hang my browser for other tasks.  My other gripe is that images in Facebook often fail to load (even after a refresh sometimes), or, my personal favourite, the CSS doesn’t load for some pages!
