Circuit City's response to my email regarding Michael Amor Righi's unlawful arrest

Dear Isaac Quinn DuPont:

Thank you for contacting circuitcity.com with your message regarding the recent incident at our store in Brooklyn, Ohio.

First, I’d like to give you a bit of background information to help you understand our security measures. Organized theft rings operate in various parts of the country, targeting retailers and, in particular, retailers like Circuit City that sell high-value items. When we experience higher theft rates, we assign associates to check customer parcels and receipts. Checking bags and receipts is a common practice in retailing. We think most consumers understand this.

Theft costs retailers a great deal of money each year. When criminals steal from retailers, consumers may ultimately pay higher prices, the safety of innocent employees can be compromised, and shoppers looking for popular merchandise often cannot find it.

We have assigned staff to check parcels and receipts at our store in Brooklyn, OH. The associate on duty is assigned to help ensure the security of the store for our customers and our associates. The associate treats all customers in the same professional manner.

Mr. Righi’s incident is unfortunate. By his own words he refused to cooperate with the local law enforcement personnel that he himself contacted and asked to come to the store.

Thank you again for your message, and I hope this information is helpful.

Sincerely,

Binola Mehtaji
