Since the iPod touch does not use AT&T’s fragile infrastructure, Apple no longer has an excuse, or a reason, to not allow third-party development on the device. Further, it is clear that it is only a matter of time before Apple gets internal application development out the door for the final OS X PIM application: iCal. With Mail, Address book, and iCal the PIM suite is barebones but functional. As soon as third party development occurs the iPod touch platform will be the next Newton.
